Just saw ZAMBRANO last week. He looks 20 pounds lighter. That's probably good news for Gatorade dispensers should he ever get angry at them again.

Interesting observation, Yellowstone. Only YOU bring such insight to the game. Now, the Tigers, as you mentioned, are much improved, and they're pretty damn close to a lake, and the Brew Crew--who everybody wrote off after Sheets and CC took off--are surprising everyone, but the other Lakes teams are pretty much stink-o. The Blue Jays have done okay but are already starting to fade and no doubt will continue. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bisons and Toledo Mud Hens are a combined 30-58, the two worst teams in the International League. Maybe that's what Lake Effect really means--a lot of snow in the winter and a lot of losses in the summer . Still, as the Northwoods League gears up for tomorrow's opener, hopes run high for the Green Bay Bullfrogs, Duluth Huskies, and Thunder Bay Border Cats. Even the Mankato Moon Dogs have a shot this year. Okay, I know Mankato isn't on a Great Lake or even a not-so-great one, but having read Rollie's Follies, I know you appreciate a good team name. Keep up the good work.

Andre Dawson. Like Blyleven, his name is often raised but allow me to raise it again. He should be in the Hall, no question. There were few players in his day who opposing fans more hated to see come up to bat in a clutch situation. Or any situation, really. Near the end of his career his knees were shot and he couldn't cover the field as well as in his early years, but he could still rake. One of the game's top players for years. Give me a choice among Rice, Henderson, and Dawson, and I'd take Dawson any day. Not that the other two weren't great. Just sayin'...

Very nice piece from Rollie about Fidrych. Those of us who remember the Bird's mound antics and irrepressible personality mourn his loss. Thanks, Rollie.
